The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) plays a central role in supporting learning across the academy. It underpins our ambition to raise standards and maximise progress for all students by promoting independent learning and fostering a culture of reading for both information and enjoyment.
To support literacy development, we use the Fresh Start programme, which focuses on strengthening students’ fundamental literacy and phonics skills. All students are assessed using the Star Reader programme three times per year to track their progress in reading and identify areas for development. This data is carefully monitored, and targeted interventions are implemented where necessary.
All students take part in guided reading each day during DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time. These sessions are designed to develop reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary, ensuring that students build the skills needed to access the wider curriculum with confidence.
