Modern foreign languages
The modern foreign languages department is run by experienced and enthusiastic teachers, who deliver French and Spanish lessons. We encourage students to be inquisitive about the world in which they live and to understand the importance of communication in the global village of today.
By studying languages, students will develop their confidence and a range of skills valued by employers. As a department we aim to foster a love of learning languages, an awareness of the importance of appreciating other cultures and the development of students’ literacy skills. We encourage independent learning and an active use of the target language.
Visits abroad are organised annually to places such as the Normandy battlefields, Barcelona and The Rhine.
Teaching is based on a communicative approach and covers all four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. In both key stage 3 and key stage 4 students are taught in topics covering these four skills. Interactive materials are used, as well as the course book.
