In June our amazing student Layton will be tackling a challenging cycle ride from London to Amsterdam in memory of his best friend Daisy.
Layton is the youngest cyclist taking on the challenge and the only child from all the charities completing the ride. He is fundraising for The Children’s Hospital Charity in support of Sheffield Children’s Hospital, a charity very close to Layton and Daisy’s families and all of us at Retford Oaks.
Layton has already raised over £5000 for ‘Daisy’s Legacy Chain’, the title of his GoFundMe page in Daisy’s memory and has been training hard for the event, riding 78 miles in one day as part of his practice.
In November 2023 Layton won the Yorkshire Children of Courage award for an ‘Amazing Achievement’ in recognition of all his hard work and fundraising so far. He had previously raised over £7000 by running 2k every day for 109 days, which then expanded to 152 days after Daisy’s chemo was extended. His donations provided families at Sheffield Children’s Hospital with self-care packs when having to stay over at the hospital at short notice.
We are so incredibly proud of Layton and his incredible achievements and selfless acts. We wish him all the best of luck next month – Retford Oaks will be cheering him on all the way!
