Over three evenings our fabulous students took to the stage in our production of Frozen JR, delighting audiences and breaking records for our academy.
A cast of 140 students brought the beloved Disney story to life from Wednesday 4 until Friday, 6 March, performing well-known songs from the musical including ‘Let It Go’ and ‘In Summer’.
Their energy, confidence and talent shone throughout the production, earning glowing feedback from audience members!
The performances were a huge success, with all three nights selling out and 729 tickets sold in total, the highest number we’ve ever recorded for a school production.
The experience was especially magical for Erin, year 8, who starred as Queen Elsa in her debut Retford Oaks Academy production. “I absolutely loved the whole experience, from rehearsals to show night. My favourite scene was ‘Let It Go’, with the lights and special effects making it feel really atmospheric.
“I also loved the final scene because it was exhilarating singing and performing with the whole cast and crew. I’ll never forget it.”
We were excited to also include a range of themed themed activities for families to enjoy during the evenings, including a Frozen themed balloon arch and photo wall, a ‘best dressed guest’ award, with refreshments and raffle tickets available to purchase in exchange for a donation.
Through these efforts, we raised £505.54 for the Make A-Wish Foundation.
Audience members were full of praise for the show, describing it as the “best show in 14 years” and “an utterly enjoyable evening.”
Holly in year 9, who played Princess Anna, added: “Being part of Frozen JR. has been an amazing experience and I’ve loved every second of it. I love performing, so getting to bring Anna to life on stage has been really special.
“She’s such a fun, bubbly character and I’ve loved playing her. Rehearsals were full of laughs and I’ve made some amazing friends along the way. It’s something I’ll always remember and I’d do it all over again if I could.”
We’d like to wish a big thank you to the entire cast and crew, teaching and admin staff, alongside the families who came to watch our show! Thank you for making it so special.
