On Monday 11 November, staff and students at Retford Oaks Academy were joined by St Giles, Thrumpton Primary and Bracken Lane pupils, alongside representatives of the Royal British Legion, for a poignant Armistice day service.

As the entire school gathered outside the front of the building, Mr Hardeman delivered a touching tribute to our armed forces and made special mention of those who are currently experiencing ongoing war and conflict across the globe.

All stood for the sounding of The Last Post, played live on trumpet by Mr Summers, as our student cadets lowered the academy flags and union jack as a traditional mark of respect. This was followed by observing the two minute silence at 11am.

The front of the academy is decorated with poppies to mark the occasion and all students will continue to take part in Remembrance themed activities this week during their personal development lessons.
