Students at Retford Oaks Academy – part of Diverse Academies Trust – are celebrating a successful post 16 results day as their achievements see them moving on to a range of exciting opportunities that include university and apprenticeships.
Among this year’s top achievers is Mia who will be heading to the University of Lincoln to study paediatric nursing. Mia achieved a distinction* in health and social care, and a distinction in early years, childcare and education. She said: “I’m feeling over the moon with my results, I didn’t expect them at all. Lincoln is my first-choice university and I’m so excited to start.”
Joining Mia at the University of Lincoln is Henry who will study computer science. Henry secured an impressive set of results with distinction*distinction for his diploma in sport, as well as a merit in IT. Henry said: “I’m very happy with my results and I’m looking forward to the new experience of university and broadening my horizons.”
Another great set of results were also awarded to Willow who secured a distinction* in health and social care, a distinction in applied science, and a B in criminology. Willow will attend Nottingham Trent University to study forensics, claiming: “I’ve been excited for my results and I’m glad they’re here! I attended a forensics club and I enjoyed it so much that I’ve chosen it as my university course.”
Other standout results include Amelia who achieved a B in criminology, a merit in health and social care, and a distinction* in early years, childcare and education. Amelia is looking forward to starting at Lincoln Bishop University to study primary education with qualified teacher status come September. Amelia said: “I’m so excited and very relieved. Becoming a primary school teacher has been my dream since I was little. I used to line my teddies up in my bedroom and pretend we were in school! I’m really happy.”
Whilst many students secured their first-choice university places, other students are excited to take up apprenticeships. Zara is one of many students on this pathway and is eager to start her training in early years care at Claremont House Nursery School, with a view to progress into primary education or play therapy. Zara’s great set of results will put her in good stead following her distinction* in child development, a merit in health and social care, and grade B in criminology. Thrilled with her results, Zara said: “I’m very happy. I didn’t expect these results at all and I’m so glad it went well. I’m looking forward to my apprenticeship and starting my career in early years care.”

We are immensely proud of their achievements and delighted to see so many progressing to exciting opportunities. Whatever their chosen destination, they leave us more confident and prepared to succeed in the wider world. The students have been supported by staff at the academy to achieve their goals, and their work in relation to this is much appreciated”.
